Why test for Lipoprotein (a)
When is Lipoprotein (a) level measurement in blood helpful ?
- Lipoprotein - a or Lp(a) blood test is performed as a part of cardiac risk assessment to know if there is any risk of developing heart disease.
- Lipoprotein (a) level is particularly tested when a person is having a family history of heart problems at a early (young age); or if a person has a heart attack, stroke or other heart disease but the routine lipid profile lab test results are normal or only slightly abnormal, e.g. borderline elevated cholesterol or LDL cholesterol.
