Microalbumin, urine microalbumin, urine micral, micral,
Urine Microalbumin test is done to screen for and to detect early kidney disease in patients suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure and other risk factors for developing kidney disease.
If microalbumin level in urine is within reference level or normal, it indicated that kidney (renal) function is normal.
Increased level of microalbumin, above the reference level if found in initial test, should be repeated.
There are several factors that can give false positive test result of high urine microalbumin test (those not related to kidney disease) such as presence of blood in urine, urinary tract infection, vigorous exercise, other acute illnesses and stress. So if microalbumin level is high on first test result, it should be repeated after few days when such conditions resolve to confirm the result.
