Why to test for Pre Marriage Health Profile at Symbion VIP Diagnostics, Ahmedabad.
Premarital Screening or Prewedding Health Profile or Premarriage Health Profile. (46 tests for Rs. 1999 / person)
In our Indian Society, we take a lot of precautions before marriage such as we screen for the background of the family on either side, we screen for kundali match between the partners, we screen for their educational background, career and their character.
But we still don't give the same weitage to the screening of health of the either partner. In fact for a happy and successful marriage, the physical and mental health of both the partners is the most important factor.
A healthy marriage is one which guarantees preventing the family members from the hereditary and infectious diseases; thus building a happy and stable family.
The presence of any of these disease or risk factors should not be a reason to not getting married, but the knowledge helps the couple to know each other better, to take an informed decision and to prepare for their future healthy life and for the planning of their children.
Premarital Screening:
Premarital screening is defined as testing couples who are planning to get married soon for common genetic blood disorders (e.g. sickle cell anemia and thalassemia and sickle cell anemia) and infectious diseases (e.g. hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV/AIDS).
Premarital screening also includes tests that detect chronic diseases, the presence of which should not defer the either partern from getting married, but the knowledge can help them take informed decision and prepare in advance for a stable marriage life.
The premarital screening aims to give medical consultation on the odds of transmitting the abovementioned diseases to the other partner/spouse or children and to provide partners/spouses with options that help them plan for healthy family.
Objectives of Premarital Screening Program:
- Limiting the spread of some genetic diseases (e.g. sickle-cell anemia and thalassemia) to the future child.
- Limiting the spread of some Infectious diseases (e.g. hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV/AIDS) to the partner, his/her family and to the future child
- Knowledge about chronic diseases (e.g. diabetes, heart diseases, kidney and liver diseases, thyroid diseases) helps the couple to take medical advice and plan for a healthy marriage life and healthy pregnancy.
- Knowledge about the blood group incompatibilites that can risk the pregnancy and the health of future child.
Hence, those couple, who are planning to get married soon, are advised to conduct the premarital screening at least three months before the marriage date; so that the couple can plan their lives better, as the premarital compatibility certificates is valid for only six months.
Also along with these lab tests, it is important to consult a health care provider who can guide the couple over the interpretation of these lab test results and to perform physical examination and some other related investigations which are also important.
